Herman just stocked all of the Mundy Ranch lakes so they should give similar experiences to this following report from David Ladensohn at nearby Ticonderoga.
Ticonderoga Pond looks just great. The rocks were perfect to stand on, notwithstanding the high water level. The cattails look scenic rather than impossible. The water was murky today after all the rain, but the fish did not seem to mind. Plenty of insect life.
I fished for 2 hours from 5:30-7:30. Fish were surfacing, rising, jumping almost the whole time. I got two good takes on a nymph but couldn't hook either. So I switched to a huge dry (#6 sort of hopper/hummingbird!)and got many takes with no hookups until I broke it off, probably in someone's mouth. Then I tied on a size 12 Royal Wulff and the fish hit it just fine, although I am just not a good enough lake fisherman to get the timing, so I didn't hook anything until about the 8th take. Lost that one, which seemed about 12-13". Finally hooked a landed a single fish, maybe 10" but very welcome to me!
There were two large dead fish in the water when we arrived. Managed to get both of them out and left them on the dam for raccoons or bears. One was a recent death and about 15". The other was more bloated and a monster, maybe 17"+. Wish I'd caught them.
Finally, at 7 pm. there was a fabulous hatch of tiny (size 20) pure white mayflies. I've never seen them anywhere, but thought they were cool.
Many thanks to all, especially Dave and Randy for making and keeping up such a tranquil and pretty place to fish or meditate.
